Over the years, Spencer construction has built many homes. When it's time to move in, we like to confidently hand over the key knowing that we have done our job. In turn, we want our customers to feel like building their home was an experience that they would do all over again. Of course, we can't always please each and every one of our customers with respect to every last detail, but we really try our best! Here's what some of our customers have to say...
We have known John for a long time. In fact he and I played little league baseball together, so when we were finally ready to build our dream home, there was no question who we were going to work with - Spencer Construction. And not just because we've known him so long, but because we know he has had a long and successful career of building high quality homes. His personal integrity is second to none. His knowledge and customer service are excellent.
All of this made our new home project extremely easy and enjoyable. Even when we came across those inevitable problems or changes, we dealt with them smoothly. More often than not the end result was better than the original plan. Today we are in our dream home and still in awe of how well it turned out. Thanks John and Bob. If we every get tired of this beautiful house we'll get together and do it again.

Dear John,
Thank you for your prompt attention to our one year warranty list. Actually, not much of a list. Two small drywall cracks that were nicely patched. Quality construction wears well!
Theresa and I are sorry that we never got to have our pool party with you and your family. This wasn't much of a year for swimming due to the cool weather and as I mentioned when we spoke, I've been pretty active in my "retirement" doing some consulting for a couple of old colleagues. We will have it next Spring!
For the record, it was a pleasure working with you and your crew - especially "Big Bob". Your willingness to make changes as the construction was underway made it doubly so. The quality of work of your subcontractors was excellent. All of our friends and relatives who visit - and there have been many - love the house design and finish. Of course, Theresa deserves a lot of credit for her custom touches like the arches and the pillars and the fireplace mantle, etc. But then she had good people to work with.
If you ever need a reference or a house to show, call on us. Of the six! houses we've built in our forty years of marriage, this one was the most fun with the least problems. Thank you for a job well done!

A huge Oak tree fell on our house over the Memorial Day Weekend, leaving major reconstruction necessary. We immediately needed a qualified contractor to begin the tear down and rebuild process. A friend recommeded The John Spencer Construction Co and God bless that recommendation ! Building a new house from scratch is a complicated process but John did his best to make it as easy and enjoyable as possible. Always ready to answer all our questions and concerns, he was honest and upfront. All small problems found during a final inspection were corrected quickly and to our satisfaction.
Our private home inspector was impressed with a quality of craftmanship and attention to details. Therefore, we were very happy with the final product - our new home. When problems did arise during construction, as they always will, John was very thorough in explaining them and discussing their solutions. John was very open to construction changes that were initiated by us (i.e., looking good on paper, maybe not when built). He even encouraged changes himself, based on his building experience.

We had a house built for us in Sugar Grove, IL by John Spencer. Having been in the building trades all my life, there were a lot of considerations on my part. Most of them were pretty typical, but a lot of them were things most first, or even 2nd/3rd time home owners would not think of.
In the final analysis it boils down to the fact that John does not deliver just a house or a home. Anyone can do that. He fullfills a dream and leaves you with a lifetime experience! John worked with us in every phase of the project and we moved into a "COMPLETE INDOOR ENVIRONMENT". He gave us every consideration, advised us continually, rearranged and adjusted as necessary and kept us close to our budget to the end.
We don't believe we'll ever want to move. If we do, John will be consulted as a friend and mentor, as well as a builder!

John Spencer built our home in 2000. Not knowing the building industry or where to begin, we sort of went into the whole thing uncertain of the outcome. Our parents had a home built by John and they were very pleased and so it seemed natural to give John a shot at quoting our home for us. After deciding to go with Spencer Construction, John walked us through the entire process from design of our home to the financing we used during condtruction and on to the end mortgage.
John is a hands on general contractor. He spent a lot of time on site overseeing the sub-contractors who worked on our home, and was always available to us whenever we had any questions throughout the whole deal. The quality of our home shows throughout in the materials used and the craftsmanship in application. We truly have a well built "custom" home that fits our lifestyle perfectly. When we decide to build again, we will definitlely choose Spencer Construction again as our builder.
